Week 4 of The Skinny Secrets Challenge – Eat Real Food!!

We are up to week 4 of the Skinny Secrets Challenge! If you have made changes to your diet in the past few weeks, I am proud of you! Making changes to your every day diet can be really tough, especially in the first few weeks.

From experience I also know you are probably hitting a wall of resistance and this is normal. I can guarantee you will at some point despise me, be frustrated and want to go back to your old ways. It seems to be human nature that we resist things and want to throw in the towel just before breakthrough, so please stick with it and walk through the resistance phase.

Good news is, if you have followed my guidelines it is all uphill from here.

I wanted to give you one thing at a time to reduce and I knew you would have been struggling with giving up sugar but it’s time to…

 

Eat Real Food & Cut the Crap!!

This means we are slowly starting to reduce the amount of processed and packaged foods that we are eating.

This is a big one and may be the secret to why you are struggling with your energy, have headaches or not losing weight.

Packaged and processed  foods are full of salt, sugar, additives and preservatives which our liver can not process. Not only does this stress out our liver which can make us feel tired and sick but it simply can not break down these artificial foods and can only store them as fat.

I recently posted this picture, on Facebook of supermarket Scones. They were bought at Woolworths  ”The Fresh Food People” and these freshly baked scones were full of so many ingredients it shocked me! I was taught to make scones with 3-5 ingredients but this list went on and on! I lectured my Mum about buying them and her excuse was she was tired and sick and just wanted scones! Our supermarkets make it so easy to grab something this but we need to think about what we are putting in our bodies!

 

Isn’t this list crazy! Why do scones need food colouring!

Store bought “fresh”  baked goods are no better for you then those found in the cookie aisle so be aware!

And don’t get me started on “diet’ products! The fitness and weight-loss industry would have you believe that their diet product is the secret to losing weight but in the long term this is simply not true. Having worked in marketing I can tell you that they do not care about your issue and they will  use whatever tactic they can create to have you believe their product will solve all your problems!

I see all too often people relying on weight-loss shakes and protein powders that are full of nasty processed ingredients. You should never seek quick fixes that may jeopardize your health. Your body deserves nutritious whole foods not man made protein powder or bar!

I know your reasons for grabbing these types of foods are due to time restraints but you are worth so much more and you have to find the time. A real meal can be just as quick to make as a frozen one.

I don’t expect you to wipe this category from your diet completely, like everything it’s about reducing slowly over time. This is the best way to stick with the habit. 

I just want you to start thinking about what you are putting into your body and start reading labels.

Say No to

  • Fast Food
  • Foods in a packet with more than 5 ingredients!
  • Frozen microwave dinners
  • Any food with the word diet on the packed
  • Protein/weight-loss shakes with more than 2 ingredients (you can have natural clean protein. Try brands such as Vital Protein, Sun Warrior, 180 Nutrition, Perfect Fit Protein by Tone it Up)
  • Potato Chips 
  • Sweets

 

Say Yes to

  • Vegetables
  • Greek Yogurt
  • Nuts
  • Lean meat
  • Popcorn
  • Wholegrain
  • Home made baked goods with real ingredients!
  • Roasted Chic Peas
  • Eggs
  • Hummus
  • Natural Nut butters

I totally get that avoiding processed foods and sugar is a big deal.  You may look at the “Say yes to” list and think there is nothing on there you’d eat. This is just an example, if you get creative there is so much you can eat!! Don’t forget I have been there and I know how hard it is but one year on I feel so good about making these changes in my life. It’s not to say I am perfect all the time, but I have become more mindful of what I put into my body. If you think you have to starve yourself to be skinny you are dead wrong. I probably eat more than you do! I just eat the right foods. There is no starving in clean eating. You actually get to eat a lot of food! I will soon post a days worth of eating for me so you can get an idea of what types of food I ear regularly and how much I get to eat.

I will write another post this week about Willpower and tips to overcome temptation as I know this is the biggest player in the game!!
